Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How many pupils in a class?
A: We keep our classes small to ensure each pupil receives one to one teaching and therefore 12 is the maximum in each class.
Q: Do we have to complete assignments to hand in each week?
A: No, we do not give homework in the way of assignments, only perhaps ask you to practise your flower arranging as much as possible.
Q: Are there exams each term?
A: No, we do not set exams, you are assessed for your Certificates through your flower arrangements and progress in class and each term you are given a mark out of 25 and this becomes your final pass for the year.
Q: Do we have different teachers each week?
A: No, you will always have the same teacher for the entire year, except in the case of illness.
Q: Are we able to do any of our own designs to see how we are going?
A: At the end of each term you will have the opportunity to create a design of your own choice incorporating what you have learnt during the term.
Q: Do we have to bring our own containers and vases or can we buy them at the Academy?
A: You will have your choice of containers and vases and are offered a 33% discount on all purchases.
Q: Do we learn how to treat and handle the flowers with confidence so that we can work in a shop?
A: Yes, you will learn each week how to treat them and you will clean the foliage off your own flowers for each class, you will also be offered time in our shop to be hands on with all the flowers, this in turn will give you all the confidence you need to work in a shop or have your own florist shop.
Q: Do we actually learn how to run a shop and take flower orders by phone and computer, also do we learn Interflora procedures?
A: Yes, you will be able to do all of that in turn and learn one to one in the shop all necessary for working or running your own business.
Q: How much of our 2 hour class is actually hands on with flowers?
A: The entire class is hands on as we give you written notes of which we expect you to read over at your leisure, you may like to take down some notes in class but this is entirely up to you for your own way of learning. There will be whiteboard demonstration of design of course, however we do not ask you to copy everything down, there is time however to do this should you wish to.
Q: Do we take our arrangements home after each class?
A: Yes, you may as they will always be finished during class time and you may wish to sell them or give them away as gifts.
Q: How many designs do we do each week?
A: Usually two for the first 3 terms of the Year and then as we are doing more advanced lessons in the last term we may only do one.
Q: Do we learn how to copy designs if we need to?
A: Yes, we will teach you how to do this and it will come naturally after you have learnt the basics of Floristry.
Q: Are there any special awards given to outstanding pupils and do we receive a Certificate at the end of the Course?
A: Yes, we have Awards for Beginners and Advanced categories and have trophies for the Winners and Runner-up and 3rd place also, Certificates are given providing you have passed your 4 assessments and attended all the classes.
